Treatment Philosophies and Goals

Looking out onto the formal garden Periodontal diseases are quite common. In fact, 80% of us have some form of them, though they can be known by different names. Some common names for periodontal diseases are: periodontitis, gum disease, and pyorrhea. Vincent's Infection and "trench mouth" are names for ANUG - acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis - which is another common gum disease periodontists treat. Most people who lose teeth do not realize that the underlying causes of their gum condition can be successfully treated. Our goal is to help you achieve the highest level of oral health. With treatment, you will realize the joy of a pleasing, comfortable, and functional smile.

It is important to note that treating periodontal disease takes a team effort: your periodontist, your dentist, and you.

Dental Implants

Whenever teeth are missing or need to be removed, the advantages of dental implant fixtures will be discussed. We, at PAPA, feel strongly that tooth structure and enamel should be preserved and left intact, whenever possible. As a result, we advise patients to choose single-tooth implant replacements, when appropriate. Please note that the pluses and minuses of procedures will always be reviewed with the patient, in order to establish the best treatment plan for each situation.

What to expect from a periodontal examination

The first appointment consists of a thorough examination and consultation. Regardless of the problem bringing you here, you will receive a soft tissue exam during which we look for any abnormalities that may be of concern. Your examination may include a series of x-rays and supportive diagnostic data, followed by an explanation of our findings. These findings will be discussed with your dentist.

Once a treatment plan has been established for your condition, the appointment sequence to treat your problem will be arranged. Treatment alternatives and financial arrangements will be discussed at your first visit, or during a subsequent consultation.
