Park Avenue Hygienists' Study Club

Chagall window's at Lincoln Center

We, at Park Avenue Periodontal Associates, are dedicated to dental education. That's why we have committed are time and resources to launch a study club to help fill the needs of dental hygienists. Up until now, there has been no single source or educational center that is responsive to current therapies and new technologies where dental hygienists can learn about and use on their patients. Our inaugural lecture in May 1999 - new instrumentation and uses for subgingival ultrasonics and debridement - was attended by 35 hygienists. It was a huge success, all urging us to broaden this program. Consequently, here are the 2001 & 2002 schedule:

Program Dates & Speakers:

October 17th, 2003

Dr. H. Ross Lambert
"The Hygienist and the Treatment of Periodontal Disease:Then and Now"

May 17, 2002:

Leslie Andrews, RDH, MBA
"Complimentary and Alternative Medicine: The Role of the Dental Professional"
This program is designed to help the dental professional gain a solid working knowledge of Alternative Medicine and how it relates to dentistry. Americans are seeking alternative care (either exclusively or in conjunction with allopathic/traditional therapies) in record numbers. Many are under the care of licensed practioners and many self-medicate (basedupon their own "research"). It is vital that every diental professional be familiar with the vast array of therapies and products available to our patients without pprescription.
An introduction of disciplines (Homeopathy, Naturopathy, Osteopathy, Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Ayurvedic, Traditional Chinese medicine, and others) will be discussed as well as popular herbs, supplements and other nutritional aids. In addition, participants will become familiar with the little know area of biological dentistry.
Strategies for enhancing the utilization of health histories to include questions regarding the use of Complementary and Alternative medicine will also be introduced. Participate in the integrative learning educational experience to become current and to learn more about this emerging and increasingly popular field of medicine.
